Rhijnvis Feith, il famoso poeta olandese del XVIII secolo, nacque il 7 febbraio 1753 a Zwolle in una famiglia benestante.
Il nonno di Rhijnvis, sindaco di Zwolle, perse tutti i suoi figli poco dopo la nascita, ad eccezione di uno: Pieter. Dal suo matrimonio nacque solo Rhijnvis, che perciò fu circondato da un'attenzione quasi eccessiva durante gli anni della sua giovinezza. L'ipersensibilità che il poeta mostrerà in seguito può forse essere attribuita all'ambiente sempre protettivo in cui crebbe.
