L'isola olandese di Texel è stata scelta da National Geographic come la 12esima isola più bella del mondo da un elenco di 111. La prima della lista erano le Isole Fær Øer.
Texel è stata anche scelta come luogo di residenza da Jan Wolkers, che è deceduto il 19 ottobre 2007 all'età di 81 anni. Si trasferì a vivere lì nel 1981 nel villaggio di Westermient.
