Nieuwstadt è un piccolo comune nel centro del Limburgo olandese con 3.260 abitanti. Il luogo ricevette diritti di città nel XIII secolo e può quindi essere storicamente considerato una città. Dopo essere stata incorporata nell'ufficio di Montfort nel XVI secolo, divenne un comune indipendente durante il periodo francese. Nel 1982 Nieuwstadt divenne parte del comune di Susteren e nel 2003 del comune di Echt-Susteren.
