Ginneken è un quartiere situato tra i quartieri di IJpelaar e Ruitersbos a sud di Breda. Nella parlata locale, Ginneken è chiamato 't Ginneke. Si trova vicino al Mastbos e al Markdal. Fino al 1942, Ginneken era un villaggio a parte.
L'origine del nome 'Ginneken' è, secondo gli etimologi belgi, antica e risale probabilmente al periodo gallo-romano. Il suffisso /-eken/ deriva dal latino /-iacum/. La parte del nome /Ginn-/ può essere ricondotta a un nome personale celtico, Gimmo o Geminius. Quindi 'Ginneken' significava originariamente: 'dominio di Gimmo/Geminius'.
