La statua di bronzo Bukkum/Bokking è stata posizionata dopo il restauro del centro del villaggio nel 1988 su iniziativa dell'allora quartiere Bukkem. Bokking è aringa affumicata, un tempo il cibo principale per le persone povere. Nella zona di Bukkemer si respirava sempre l'odore del pesce delle aringhe fritte e affumicate. Il quartiere si estendeva un po' da torre a torre e da Molendijk a Pastoriestraat. Era un quartiere popolare povero con il leggendario negozio di pesce di Kolbe. Le persone avevano soprannomi come Keuchie, Zwiepus e Grotendorst. I residenti si sono dispersi in tutta Olanda, ma dai anni '70 si riuniscono il più possibile alla fine dell'anno per il tradizionale torneo di calcetto Bukkemer. In questo evento, convivialità, cordialità, solidarietà e "burro sul pesce", che caratterizzano questo quartiere, sono nuovamente presenti come un tempo.
