L'ex comune di Vleuten-De Meern è diventato un parte del comune di Utrecht dal 1° gennaio 2001, la capitale della provincia olandese di Utrecht. Il comune comprendeva i villaggi di Vleuten, De Meern, Haarzuilens e le loro aree circostanti. Nel 1999 il comune contava 19.430 abitanti.
Nel 1811 furono creati quattro comuni dalle allora giurisdizioni di Themaat, De Haar, Vleuten e De Meern, Ouden Rhijn, Heijcop, Papendorp, Galekop, Veldhuizen, Reijerscop-Kreuningen e Reijerscop-St.Pieters: Vleuten, Oudenrijn, Veldhuizen e Haarzuilens. Da questi comuni è nato il nuovo comune di Vleuten-De Meern il 1° gennaio 1954. Tuttavia, il precedente comune di Oudenrijn venne suddiviso in una parte orientale che fu aggiunta al comune di Utrecht e una parte occidentale destinata a Vleuten-De Meern. Il confine tra queste due parti si trovava all'attuale autostrada A2. Il 1° gennaio 2001 si è nuovamente svolta una riorganizzazione comunale, mediante la quale l'intero Vleuten-De Meern è stato incorporato nel comune di Utrecht.
