La costruzione della chiesa di São Dâmaso iniziò nella prima metà del XVII secolo e fu completata solo nel secolo successivo.
Il coro ha una notevole pala d'altare in legno dorato , opera di Pedro Coelho, un intagliatore di Guimarães, e il soffitto è fatto di cassettoni. La navata è anche decorata con pale d'altare in stile portoghese della fine del XVII e dell'inizio del XVIII secolo. La lavorazione del legno si abbina perfettamente alle piastrelle storiche che decorano l'interno. Sono state realizzate nella prima metà del XVIII secolo, sono attribuite al creatore di monogrammi PMP e raffigurano episodi della vita di Papa San Damaso .
