La statua del Marechal Gomes da Costa, inaugurata il 28 maggio 1966 , fu eretta per rendere omaggio al Marechal Gomes da Costa.
Manuel Gomes da Costa è stato un soldato e politico portoghese, decimo presidente della Repubblica e secondo della dittatura, nato a Lisbona il 14 gennaio 1863 e morto nella stessa città il 17 dicembre 1929. Divenne famoso per aver guidato la rivolta del 28 maggio 1926 , in cui Braga prese il comando del suo esercito e marciò su Lisbona con l'obiettivo di realizzare il colpo di stato militare che avrebbe posto fine alla Prima Repubblica, inaugurato un periodo di dittatura militare e in seguito reso possibile il regime di Estado Novo.
La statua è stata progettata dallo scultore Salvador Barata Feyo e raffigura il maresciallo Gomes da Costa nella sua uniforme militare, con un manganello in mano, appoggiato su un piedistallo di granito con la scritta "AO MARECHAL GOMES DA COSTA".
