La Biblioteca del Congresso , nota con gli acronimi LOC o Loc, è de facto la biblioteca nazionale degli Stati Uniti d'America.
Grazie agli oltre 158 milioni di documenti in essa custoditi è la più grande biblioteca al mondo .

Le sue collezioni includono più di 28 milioni di libri catalogati e altro materiale stampato in 470 lingue; più di 50 milioni di manoscritti; la maggiore raccolta di libri rari dell'America Settentrionale, comprendente anche una Bibbia di Gutenberg; la più grande collezione del mondo di materiali legali, film, mappe, spartiti musicali e registrazioni sonore. La biblioteca custodisce inoltre il primo libro stampato in America britannica nel 1640: The Bay Psalm Book.
Il palazzo Thomas Jefferson, sede della biblioteca, è considerato uno degli esempi più magnificenti dell'American Renaissance.
