L'attacco di Pearl Harbor avvenne alle prime luci dell'alba del 7 dicembre 1941, condotto da una flotta di portaerei della Marina imperiale giapponese contro la United States Pacific Fleet e le installazioni militari statunitensi di Pearl Harbor, sull'isola di Oahu, nell'arcipelago delle Hawaii.
L'operazione fu attuata in assenza della dichiarazione di guerra giapponese, che si riuscì a formalizzare soltanto ad attacco iniziato a causa di ritardi nella decrittazione del testo in codice da parte dell'ambasciata nipponica: l'attacco provocò l'ingresso nella seconda guerra mondiale degli Stati Uniti, dove si ingenerò nell'opinione pubblica un forte sentimento di riprovazione e di odio verso il Giappone per quello che il presidente Franklin Delano Roosevelt definì, nel suo discorso alla nazione, come Day of infamy .
