Het beeld werd ingehuldigd in 1926, het jaar van de dood van de professor, en bevindt zich op het terrein van het Instituut aan de Plaza de Guillermo Rances.
Adolfo Cabrera Pinto leefde van 1855 tot 1926. In de stad La Laguna, op Tenerife, werd hij benoemd tot directeur van het Algemeen en Technisch Instituut van de provincie Santa Cruz de Tenerife, waar hij ruim twintig jaar lang enorm onderwijswerk verrichtte.
Maar bovenal slaagde hij erin om bij Koninklijk Besluit van 11 april 1913 de Universiteit van La Laguna op te nemen in het administratieve organisatieproject van de Archipel. Naast hoogleraar was hij een groot en vooraanstaand journalist, redacteur van El Populair en medewerker van vele andere kranten.
