Klagenfurt is een Oostenrijkse stad gelegen in het zuiden van de staat, in Karinthië. Het is de hoofdstad en de meest bevolkte stad van Karinthië en heeft de status van statutair stad. Het ligt aan de oever van de Wörthersee of Wörthermeer, en op korte afstand van de grens met Slovenië. Klagenfurt ligt op een hoogte van 446 meter boven zeeniveau, aan de oostelijke uitlopers van de Alpen. De stad strekt zich uit langs de oostelijke oever van het Wörthersee, in het Klagenfurter Bekken. De enige uitlaat van de Wörthersee, de Glanfurt-rivier, doorkruist de stad in het zuiden en mondt uit in de Glan-rivier, die de stad van noord naar zuidoost doorkruist.
