Kasteel Wagrain ligt aan de noordrand van Ebbs, ongeveer zes kilometer ten noordoosten van Kufstein in Tirol.
Het kasteel werd in 1421 voor het eerst genoemd als zetel van de heren van Ebbs, maar het wordt echter vermoed dat het al in de 14e eeuw als een drie verdiepingen tellende woontoren werd gebouwd. De heren van Ebbs dienden als rechters in dienst van de Beierse hertogen, leverden van 1429 tot 1438 met Johann Ebser de bisschop van Chiemsee en stierf in 1494 met Ludwig Ebser uit.
