In het grootste deel van het Alpbachertal of Alpbachervallei vindt je, net als hier langs deze rivierbedding, de Wildschönauer Leisteen.
Dit type steen is het product van zandige modderafzettingen die zich in het verleden (Ordovicium - 500 tot 420 miljoen jaar geleden) in een diepe zee hebben opgehoopt en zijn samengeperst tot schisteuze rotsen. Het vertoont weinig sporen van leven, maar veel producten van vulkanische activiteit. Het verweert snel en voorkomt dat oppervlaktewater wegstroomt. Deze rots is verantwoordelijk voor de ronde contouren van het terrein, met weelderige weiden op de berghellingen en donkerder wordende bossen.
