De Franklin Rooseveltlaan werd op het einde van de 19de eeuw aangelegd langsheen een gedeelte van de oude stadsomwalling.
Momenteel is de Franklin Rooseveltlaan vooral het decor van de Vilvoordse markt op woensdag en zaterdag.
Op het einde van de laan bevindt zich het beeld van "het Brabants trekpaard" van Koen Van Daele uit 1993.
Het Brabantse trekpaard is niet alleen een symbool van Vlaams-Brabant, maar zeker ook van Vilvoorde, dat zijn naam als "Pjeirefrettersstad" hierin herkent.
