Het grote Zoölogisch instituut van de KU Leuven was vroeger een hoeve die bij Salve Mater hoorde, maar sinds 1978 is het een onderzoekscentrum naar de verbetering van dierenwelzijn en milieu. De locatie ligt langs een landbouwleerpad. Dat is een tocht doorheen akker- en bosrijke landschappen. De route is toegankelijk voor het brede publiek en is vooral bedoeld om landbouw toegankelijker te maken en om contact te leggen met landbouwers en hun bedrijven.
