Wist je dat het grootste deel van het huidige Henegouwen op het grondgebied van het vroegere graafschap Henegouwen ligt. Zowat de helft van het historische graafschap werd geannexeerd door de Franse koning Lodewijk XIV en ging samen met het geannexeerde deel van het graafschap Vlaanderen de zelfstandige Franse provincie Flandre vormen. Deze provincie werd bij de Franse Revolutie het Noorderdepartement.
