Dit reservaat, gelegen in de gemeente Westouter, ligt in een complex van bronbossen, vochtige bron- en hellingweiden en droge koutergronden op stenige bodem. Vooral de vegetaties in een dergelijk gradiëntrijk milieu zijn zeer gevarieerd en soortenrijk. Met name de bronweide (zie foto) aan het Brandersbos (Dottergrasland) en de bronbosvegetaties van dit bos behoren tot de best ontwikkelde vegetaties van dit type in het volledige West-vlaamse heuvelland.
