Het kasteel is grotendeels nog door water omgeven. Dit kasteel gaat terug tot in de middeleeuwen. Het werd verbouwd in de 16de eeuw en later nog tweemaal in de 18de eeuw, deels in classicistische stijl en rond 1910 in een historiserende stijl. Eén van de bekendste bewoners was Karel van Sint-Omaars, die een unieke plantentuin en - collectie aanlegde.
Van het oorspronkelijke kasteel is weinig overgebleven. Alleen in de keldergedeelten en de muurbasis vooraan zijn er nog opeenvolgende lagen natuursteen en baksteen. Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd het kasteel verbouwd. Alleen het wapenschild in de voorgevel en enkele rouwborden in de grote zaal herinneren nog aan de adellijke bewoners.
