Izegem is een plaats en stad in de Belgische provincie West-Vlaanderen. De stad telt ongeveer 28.000 inwoners en wordt ook wel pekkerstad, borstelstad of schoenenstad genoemd. Doorheen de stad stroomt de Mandel en het kanaal Roeselare-Leie.Er is voor het eerst schriftelijk gebruik gemaakt van de naam Izegem, of Isinchehem zoals het toen werd genoemd, in het jaar 1066. De stadsnaam werd gebruikt in een oorkonde van Boudewijn V van Vlaanderen aan het Sint-Pieterskapittel van Rijsel, aan wie hij een stuk grond en een aantal hoeven schonk.
