De zogenaamde Abdesseweg is een ontginningsweg van de abdij Beaupré-sur-la-Lys. In 1167 schonk Philips van den Elzas dit ingepolderd land aan de abdij van Watten (noorden van Frankrijk); in de documenten werd duidelijk gesteld dat het om nieuw land ging. In 1258 verkocht de abdij van Watten de gronden door aan de Cisterciënzerabdij van Beaupré-sur-la-Lys.
Gezien het feit dat het Nieuwland betreft, gaat het om nieuw ingepolderde grond, de Abdesseweg lag ten oosten van de abdijgronden en loopt dan ook dwars doorheen de vroegere Testerepgeul.
Op luchtfoto's is vandaag nog steeds de positie van de verdwenen hofstede van de abdij te zien als een cropmark. Deze open vlakte wordt in oude documenten het Wayerland genoemd, omdat de wind hier vrij spel heeft.
