Kasteel met middeleeuwse donjon, 16de-eeuwse uitbreiding en 17de-eeuwse en 19de-eeuwse aanpassingen, nauw verbonden met de geschiedenis van de gemeente en gelegen op de noordelijke oever van de Grote Nete. Waterburcht ontstaan en gegroeid rond een "heerlijke" versterking met donjon of woontoren, gelegen aan de rand van een beboomd park (circa 60 hectare) met vijvers, gazons, dreven, wandelpaden, een symmetrische Franse tuin en een minder formeel Engels park van elkaar gescheiden door de Grote Nete. De ligging van het kasteel gaat terug op een strategische site, namelijk een zandige opduiking in de moerassen ten noorden van de Grote Nete; archeologische bewijzen voor een Gallo-Romeinse of Frankische nederzetting zijn niet aanwezig.
