Het Vredegerecht dompelt je al meteen onder in de conflictsfeer van de Eerste Wereldoorlog. In dit gebouw werden van de 19e eeuw tot nu civiele conflicten uitgevochten. Je kan de raadzaal van het Vredegerecht bezoeken, kan kennismaken met specifieke eigenschappen van het gebouw en met enkele spraakmakende rechtszaken.
In de Eerste Wereldoorlog vestigde de Duitse bezetter zijn Kommandantur in het vredegerecht. Vanuit het gebouw gaf de Duitse Kommandant zijn opeisingen door aan het Meetjeslandse volk.
