De fladderiep (Ulmus laevis) is een boom uit de iepenfamilie, ook olm genoemd. Het blad is eirond tot ovaal, veernervig, dubbel gezaagde bladrand. De onderzijde van het blad is behaard. De bruingrijze schors schilfert af bij jonge bomen. Je herkent hem uit de andere iepen doordat zijn bloemen (en later de vruchtjes) op lange stelen staan. Vandaar zijn naam fladder- of steeliep.
Iepen zijn gevoelig voor de iepenziekte, die veroorzaakt wordt door een schimmel die verspreid wordt door de iepenspintkever. Maar doordat deze kevers de fladderiep niet echt lusten, ontsnapt de boom meestal aan deze ziekte.
