Description

Een grove den (Pinus sylvestris), langs de Molenweg te Niel-bij-As, kreeg de naam 'Dikke Den'. De den heeft een stamomtrek van 317 cm (meting uitgevoerd in 2012) en is in deze regio een van de hoogste, dikste en oudste in zijn soort. De den ligt langs een voetpad dat de Oude Molenweg verbindt met de Smispoelstraat en is ooit aangeplant als hoekboom om kadastergrenzen te markeren. Door zijn huidige omvang en mooie representatieve groeivorm is hij een beeldbepalend element.
