Je kwam er ongetwijfeld al tegen op de route; bunkers. Deze maken allemaal deel uit van de hollandlinie of Hollandstellung; van het Zwin tot in Antwerpen aan de kempenlinie. De Duitsers bouwden deze tijdens Wereldoorlog 1 uit wantrouwen tegenover de Nederlanders. Wat heeft dit dan eigenlijk met natuurlijke erfgoed te maken? De bunkers zijn ondertussen al zo lang ingebed in het landschap dat ze het een zekere waarde mee geven, kijk maar naar de foto’s. Ook bepaalde dieren genieten van hun aanwezigheid. Voor vleermuizen zijn dit ideale plekken om te overwinteren.
