Description

Niel is een gemeente aan de noordelijke rechteroever van de Rupel. Vroeger vond je hier veel steenbakkerijen. Nu die industrie verdwenen is, krijgt de natuur stilaan weer de bovenhand op vele verlaten plekken en in kleiputten. Zo is het natuurgebied Walenhoek ontstaan. Vlakbij Niel kan je het veer nemen naar Wintam, bekend voor de natuurgebieden en de grote zeesluis die de Schelde verbindt met het Zeekanaal Brussel-Schelde.
