Het grote werk, Koeien op weg naar de heide is van Florent Crabeels, die andere vernieuwer in de 19de-eeuwse schilderkunst. Crabeels wordt dé schilder van het licht genoemd en Pol De Mont noemde hem 'onze eerste Belgische luminist'. De achterkant toont het werk Het Kolenveld, een werk waarin het licht eveneens domineert. Hij was zeer bevriend met Heymans, tien jaar jonger maar toch erg door hem beïnvloed. Crabeels woonde in een deel van het huis van Janneke 'Tijs' Van de Voet, (aan de brug over de snelweg) een ongetrouwde boer (foto op het bord).
