In de Molenstraat, aan de brug over de Mark, ligt de prachtig gerestaureerde Laermolen. Voor 1381 stond op deze plaats een watermolen die ’Laermolen‘ werd genoemd (’Het Laer‘ = een onbebouwd, drassig weiland). Aanvankelijk ging het enkel om een graanmolen. Later was er ook sprake van een slagmolen of oliemolen voor het pletten van oliehoudende zaden. In de loop der jaren werd de molen meermaals verwoest en heropgebouwd. Enkele enthousiaste Hoogstratenaren, verenigd in vzw De Laermolen, hebben deze molen tussen 2000 en 2004 terug in zijn vroegere glorie hersteld. Zelfs het waterrad draait weer.
