Het Lac de l’Hongrin ligt in het kanton Vaud, in de gemeenten Château-d’Oex en Ormont-Dessous. Het water wordt verwerkt in de waterkrachtcentrale Veytaux en stroomt vervolgens in het Meer van Genève. Op deze manier wordt het stroomgebied van de Hongrin, dat in de Rijn uitmondt, via de Europese watershed gedeeltelijk naar de Rhône geleid.
Het stuwmeer is te bereiken vanuit het oosten via La Lécherette, vanuit het zuidwesten via Corbeyrier of vanuit het noorden via Montbovon.
