Volgens de legende had prinses Libuše , de vorst van de Tsjechische stam, een visioen over Praag: "Ik zie een uitgestrekte stad, waarvan de glorie de sterren zal raken! Ik zie een plek midden in een bos waar een steile klif boven de Moldau uitsteekt. Er is een man die de drempel ( prah ) voor het huis beitelt. Daar zal een kasteel genaamd Praag ( Praha ) worden gebouwd. Zoals de prinsen en hertogen zich voor een drempel buigen, zo zullen ze buigen voor het kasteel en de stad eromheen. Het zal worden geëerd, begunstigd met grote faam, en de hele wereld zal het prijzen."
