De Harz is een sprookjesachtige plek. De mist die de bossen en dalen vaak met een mysterieus waas bedekt, tovert allerlei vormen en wezens om tot heksen, duivels, reuzen en dwergen. Het is dan ook niet verwonderlijk dat de Harz talrijke door sagen en legenden omringde plekken telt. Een daarvan is de Bodevallei in de Unterharz of oostelijke Harz. De ingang van die vallei wordt bewaakt door twee rotsformaties die elk hun verhaal te vertellen hebben. Het gebied tussen Thale en Treseburg is niet alleen het mooiste deel van de Bodevallei, maar ook een van de oudste Duitse natuurgebieden
