Zijn leven werd de kern van het populaire verhaal van Doctor Faust in Christopher Marlowe's toneelstuk "De Tragische Geschiedenis van het Leven en Dood van Doctor Faustus" (1604) en Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's drama Faust (1808) en Hector Berlioz muzikale compositie La Damnation de Faust (première 1846). Dr. Johann Georg Faust was een rondtrekkende alchemist, astroloog en magiër van de Duitse Renaissance. Mogelijke plaatsen van herkomst van de historische Johann Faust zijn Knittlingen (Manlius 1562), in de buurt van Helmstadt Heidelberg, of Roda.
