Tegenover Assmannshausen staat op een steile rots de burcht Rheinstein, een der belangrijkste voorbeelden van de wederopbouw van romantische burchten. Als meesterwerk van de architect Johann Claudius von Lassaulx werd deze rond het begin van de 14e eeuw gebouwde burcht als vorstelijk zomerverblijf uitgerust.
In 1975 kocht de operazanger Hermann Hecher de burcht. Het is aan hem te danken dat ze terug een grote attractie werd in de vallei van de Rijn. Rond de woontoren uit de 14e eeuw ziet men neogotische gebouwen, torentjes, terrassen en ijzeren trappen. In de burcht bevinden zich kostbare glasramen en wandschilderijen, evenals een renaissanceschouw en stijlvolle meubels. In de ridderzaal vinden burcht- en ridderspelen plaats. De burcht is enkel via een kort voetpad bereikbaar en biedt een wondermooi uitzicht op het Binger Loch en Assmannshausen.
