Het Frankenwald is een Duits middelgebergte in het noordoosten van Franken dat tussen de 300 en 794,6 m boven NHN hoog is en een oppervlakte van 925 km² beslaat. Kleine delen behoren tot Thüringen en vormen de zuidoostelijke uitbreiding van het Thüringer Wald.
Het Frankenwald is het middelste deel van het Thüringisch-Fränkische middelgebergte. Deze 200 km lange bergrug van Thüringer Wald en Thüringer Schiefergebirge, Frankenwald en Fichtelgebirge strekt zich uit van noordwest naar zuidoost tot aan de Tsjechische grens.
