Hessen (of Hessia), officieel de Deelstaat Hessen, is een parlementaire republiek in West-Europa en, met iets meer dan zes miljoen inwoners, een deelstaat van de Bondsrepubliek Duitsland sinds 1949. De hoofdstad is Wiesbaden, het grootste stedelijke gebied is Frankfurt am Main.
Als culturele regio omvat Hessen ook het gebied dat bekend staat als Rhenish Hessen in de buurstaat Rijnland-Palts.
