Om 1200 was op dezelfde plaats een romaanse kerk gebouwd en onder de bescherming van de heilige Vitus gesteld, wiens naam op de plaats overging. Van dit gebouw is de toren behouden.
Het langhaus werd eind 17e eeuw vervangen door een rechthoekige zaalkerk met gotiserend koor en vertegenwoordigde façade. De portaalgevel toont vormen van de Romeinse barok.
