De brikettenfabriek "Hohenzollern" bevond zich in het noordoosten van de Zuid-Brandenburgse kuurstad Bad Liebenwerda. Ze werd opgericht van 1889 tot 1890 onder leiding van de ondernemer Carl Schwabach, die ook wordt beschouwd als een van de oprichters van de regionale bruinkoolindustrie.
De nog bestaande gebouwen leken in hun structuur en indeling op die van de brikettenfabriek in het enkele kilometers verderop gelegen Beutersitz. In mei 1890 werd de fabriek in gebruik genomen. Ze werd bevoorraad met bruinkool uit de Rothsteiner dieptegrube "Daniel" via een ongeveer 6,5 kilometer lange kabelbaan, die werd aangedreven door een stoommachine van 23 pk.
