De Görlitzer Waggonbouw is sinds 1849 een fabrikant van spoorvoertuigen voor de nationale en internationale markt. De nadruk bij de productie en constructie van rollend materieel lag op personenwagens, maar ook treinstellen en goederenwagens werden in de fabriek ontworpen en geproduceerd. Het merk van de fabrikant zijn de dubbeldekkers. Deze worden sinds 1935 in Görlitz gebouwd en zijn ook in tal van varianten in gebruik bij Duitse spoorwegbedrijven en vooral in het buitenland in Europa.
De waggonbouw kijkt terug op een geschiedenis van meer dan 160 jaar en heeft de economische landscape in Görlitz als weinig andere bedrijven gevormd. De geschiedenis van de waggonbouwinstelling reikt van de aanvankelijke koetsenbouwwerkplaats tot een zelfstandige, in heel Duitsland opererende grootbedrijf en tot de huidige aansluiting bij de Bombardier-groep.
