Het Friedrichsplatz in Mannheim is een van de best bewaarde neobarokke en met Jugendstilelementen versierde parken in Duitsland. Het werd aangelegd in de jaren na de voltooiing van de Mannheimer Watertoren in 1889.
Al in de jaren 1870 werd in Mannheim besloten om een stadsuitbreiding aan de oostkant van het stadscentrum uit te voeren. In dit verband was het voor de watervoorziening noodzakelijk om een watertoren te bouwen. In 1885 werd de locatie van de Mannheimer Watertoren gekozen. Het aangrenzende gebied moest worden ontwikkeld tot een van de "mooiste plekken ter wereld".
