Het Planetarium Mannheim is het opvolgende gebouw van het in 1927 gebouwde gebouw, dat een van de eerste planetariums ter wereld was.
De projectiedome heeft een hoogte van 20 meter en biedt plaats aan 220 toeschouwers. Sinds 2002 beschikt het planetarium over het moderne projectieapparaat „Universarium“ van Carl Zeiss.
