De Else-Lasker-Schüler-Gesellschaft zet zich in voor een eigentijdse herinneringscultuur; het is een politiek actieve literatuurvereniging die zich verbindt aan de dichteres Else Lasker-Schüler en haar literaire en tekenkundige werk.
De vereniging werd in 1990 in Wuppertal opgericht door Hajo Jahn. De eerste voorzitter was Friedhelm Beiner. De tweede voorzitter en vrijwillige directeur is de voormalige WDR-journalist Hajo Jahn. Hij is sinds 1997 ook de eerste voorzitter van de vereniging.
