Het kerkdorp ligt aan de oosthelling van het Illertal, ongeveer 2 km ten noorden van Illertissen. In het oosten bevindt zich het oude dorp, terwijl westelijk, deels enigszins afgelegen, de woongebieden aansluiten. De Schwärzlegraben en de Krautgartengraben ontspringen in of nabij het dorp en verbinden zich ten noorden tot de Mauchegraben.
Betlinshausen was al in de late middeleeuwen een populaire pelgrimsbestemming. De kerk van St. Johannes de Doper met zijn koepeltorentjes dateert uit de barokperiode.
