Op sommige van de percelen heeft turfwinning plaatsgevonden, wat heeft geleid tot met water gevulde gaten of natte gronden waar landbouw niet mogelijk was. De turfwinning stopte rond 1960. De begroeiingen bij de overgroeide turfgraven zijn vandaag de dag een leefgebied voor onder andere de nachtegaal, die te horen is in de late avonduren en vroege ochtenduren gedurende enkele weken vanaf medio mei.
