Eerste stenen huis van Amerika en waarschijnlijk het eerste met twee verdiepingen. Het dankt zijn naam aan het koord dat op zijn façade wordt getoond en dat is geassocieerd met de franciscaanse orde. Het werd besteld door Don Francisco de Garay, een reisgenoot van de eerste reis van Christoffel Columbus, die later gouverneur van Jamaica werd.
De vicekoningen Diego Colón en María de Toledo woonden kort in dit huis terwijl het Alcázar werd gebouwd.
Tijdens de tijd van de invasie van Francis Drake werd in dit huis de weegschaal geplaatst waar de bezittingen die de bewoners aan de kaper moesten overhandigen, gewogen moesten worden.
