Het was het huis van Rodrigo de Bastidas, de oprichter van verschillende steden in Zuid-Amerika. Het gebouw van 3.000 vierkante meter is rondom een rechthoekige centrale binnenplaats gebouwd. Het huis heeft lange gangen die de binnenplaats verbinden door een veelheid van Romeinse bogen.
Meer dan een eeuw werd het huis bewoond door de afstammelingen van Rodrigo Bastidas, en daarna werd het gebruikt door verschillende overheidsinstellingen, waardoor het nu het Museo del Niño Dominicano huisvest.
