Couto Misto was vanaf de twaalfde eeuw tot en met 1868 een onafhankelijke dwergstaat gelegen tussen Portugal en Spanje. Het land bestond uit de dorpen Santiago de Rubiás, Rubiás en Meaus, welke alle drie gelegen waren in de Salas-vallei en nu toebehoren tot Spanje. Het grondgebied van Couto Misto omvatte ook een kleine onbewoonde landstrook die nu deel uitmaakt van de Portugese gemeente Montalegre.
