Blaise Pascal werd geboren in Clermont-Ferrand op 19 juni 1623. Hij verloor zijn moeder, Antoinette Begon, op de leeftijd van drie jaar. Zijn vader, Étienne Pascal (1588–1651), die ook interesse had in wetenschap en wiskunde, was een lokale rechter en lid van de "Noblesse de Robe". Hij is beroemd om vele dingen, waarvan één Pascal's driehoek is. Elk nummer is de som van de twee direct boven hem. De driehoek toont veel wiskundige eigenschappen naast het tonen van binomiale coëfficiënten (kijk naar de video).
