Ze gaan de geschiedenis in als de kidnappers van oud-premier Paul Vanden Boeynants. Haemers, Lacroix en co. zullen vooral de geschiedenis ingaan als de gangsters die in januari 1989 oud-premier Paul Vanden Boeynants kidnappen en opsluiten in de Noord-Franse badplaats Le Touquet. 'VDB' wordt na een maand levend vrijgelaten in ruil voor een losprijs van 63 miljoen Belgische frank (1,6 miljoen euro). De dag erop doet de politicus in zijn theatrale stijl verslag van zijn ontvoering: "Je me suis dit: VDB, tu ne vas pas crever ici."
