Brest ; Breton uitspraak: [bʀest]) is een havenstad in het departement Finistère, Bretagne. Gelegen in een beschutte baai niet ver van de westpunt van het schiereiland en de westelijke extremiteit van het vasteland van Frankrijk, is Brest een belangrijke haven en de tweede Franse militaire haven na Toulon. De stad ligt aan de westelijke rand van het vasteland van Frankrijk. Met 142.722 inwoners in de volkstelling van 2007 vormt Brest het grootste stedelijke gebied van West-Bretagne, en staat het derde na Nantes en Rennes in heel historisch Bretagne, en is het de 19e meest bevolkte stad van Frankrijk; bovendien biedt Brest diensten aan de één miljoen inwoners van West-Bretagne. Hoewel Brest verreweg de grootste stad in Finistère is, is de prefectuur van het departement het veel kleinere Quimper.
